A Lifeline Is Being Cut — We Need Your Voice

For 43 years, the State of the States in Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities—recognized as a Project of National Significance—has provided critical data on public spending for intellectual and developmental disabilities services in the United States. These data have been used by policymakers, advocates, and individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families to show how supports can impact lives. Now, that lifeline is in jeopardy.

On April 16 a “passback” (draft) of the President’s proposed budget was leaked and circulated publicly that eliminates funding for this long-standing and essential program.  It also eliminates other programs that will have real and tangible negative impacts on the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This isn’t just a number on a spreadsheet—it’s the dismantling of an important resource that support systems that countless families rely on every single day.

What’s at Risk?

  • Policy innovation and research that drive inclusive change on the local, state, and national level
  • Critical Training in I/DD data and data accessibility to advance leadership in policy, education, research, and practice
  • Services and supports that help individuals with IDD live, work, and thrive in their communities

Eliminating this funding threatens to roll back decades of progress.

Why This Matters

This project is more than a program.

Every American with or without disabilities deserves a chance to live with dignity. Gutting this funding sends the opposite message.
