Biography

Jeanette Cordova has over 25 years of experience in nonprofits and more than 18 years of advocating for children with disabilities. Jeanette is Puerto Rican American, born in New York City and raised in Miami, Florida. Jeanette moved to Colorado in 1992 and lived in Denver for 27 years. After almost three years in Florida supporting her family, working with families of color, and advocating in schools, she is back home in Colorado.  Jeanette has developed and maintained relationships with the Spanish-speaking community in the area of disabilities for the past 27 years and is the owner of Bright Futures Advocacy LLC.

Some of Jeanette's experience came through her volunteer time as an Educational Surrogate Parent for the Colorado Department of Education over six years. She provided advocacy for children with disabilities whose parental rights were severed and who needed a representative in their individualized education plan meetings.

Jeanette is also the proud mom of a 21-year-old son who is chromosomally enhanced and has a lot of charm. Jeanette knows first-hand the challenges and incredible journey of being a parent of a child with unique abilities.

Jeanette works as a Program Manager for the MCH Engagement and Community Inclusion Teams at the Association of University Centers on Disabilities.

Jeanette graduated in May 2011 with her Associate in Liberal Arts, Cum Laude, from Community College of Denver. She graduated in December 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in Human Services, concentration in nonprofit and minors in Psychology and Spanish. Jeanette is also a member of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, Psi Beta National Honor Society in Psychology, and Human Services Organization at the Metropolitan State University of Denver. Jeanette attended the University of Colorado for two semesters toward her master's. After a break, she is continuing her education for a master’s in Clinical Mental Health at Adams State University online program.
