Dr. Braddock's 1st book (1971) he coauthored with Fred Weintraub & Al Abeson at CEC. It contained a model inclusive state special education law adopted by numerous states, and documented school exclusion and other discrimination by states and localities.

Published with a foreword by Senator Bob Dole, Dr. Braddock’s 3rd book analyzed trends in federal policy, spending and services over a 50 year period (1935-85). Limited financial support for alternatives to institutionalization and for research was noted.

Dr. Braddock’s 4th book (1992) with Dale Mitchell on compensation and turnover in all 50 states. Over 1,000 facilities participated and turnover was 71% per annum in privately-operated settings. Direct support staff wages approached poverty level.

Dr. Braddock began working at the Austin State School in 1968 on a federal grant project: “Functional Concepts in Physical Activity for People with Intellectual Disabilities”. He was a grad student in the University of Texas’s MBA & Government programs.
